Description
“A Broadway Milkmaid” is mentioned in a critical review kept in in the Millet Family scrapbook. It mentions that “Bashi Bazouk” was shown a few years prior and also mentions another painting, the “Koran Reader” whose whereabouts are unknown at the present. The clipping is also pasted in the scrapbook among several reviews of Millet’s Kate Field painting. All of these items together give us some likelihood that Milkmaid was painted circa 1880, when evidently many other artists were also showing milkmaid paintings as a popular subject matter.
