Portrait of a young woman

Signed on verso, on the stretcher, FD Millet, 1892 Broadway.  The painting is not signed on the recto (front) and the writing on the stretcher is not clearly in Millet’s handwriting. 

More research on this painting needs to be conducted to establish provenance. The painting gives the sense that it is unfinished, incorrectly dated and done much earlier in his career or, misattributed by someone who wrote his name on the back of the painting thinking it was his.  Comparing many other portraits done by this much later date in his career, it does not show the same level of skill, coloring etc.  Much more research needs to be completed on this painting.
