Description
The Painting has no date. It is a sensitive portrait of a young woman looking left to right with a small harp in her hands. Millet is known to have painted several works with women and harps. Although there is no date on the painting, the first recorded exhibition of the work is in 1888. This is consistent with a number of Greek/Roman genre paintings he did in the mid to late 1880’s. It is similar to several other genre paintings that uses the same pallet of colors in the brown tones with a special focus on the delicate features of the woman.
It is currently on view in the Milwaukee Art Museum, S205
