Description
Aurora by Millet:
Currently owned by the East Bridgewater Library, in storage. This early painting by Millet circa 1870-1871 or earlier was painted before he had any real art training, but it showed a grasp of the technical detail that would later in life become a strong part of his artistic skill.
From handwritten Tag on the verso of the painting:
Painting was owned by E. C. Millet until her death in 1962 then by her daughter, Mary B. Keith, (Emerson nee Molly Millet), Then by David M. Emerson to Richard C Millet, Nov 1989
Another tag on the painting describes that they assumed it was painted by FDM when he went as a student to Belgium in (1871) and there is speculation also that he did the painting prior to being admitted to study at the Academy in Antwerp. Millet’s painting is a copy of the Aurora by ( They say Titian?) Aurora is actually by Guido Reni
