Description
The Cottage Garden, is known to have been painted in 1878, about the same time Philosophy in Summer was painted, while Millet was staying with the Merrill family and the party was spending the summer months in a beach-side residence “Chalet de la Plage” in a small village named Vasouy near Honfleur, Calvados in Normandy.
Cottage Garden was shown at the 1883, Society of American Artists Exhibition, in NYC, NY where Millet was one of the founders of the organization.
