In 1875 Millet returned to the United States and opened a studio on Boston’s Tremont Street. In the following year, he exhibited his painting, The Bay of Naples, at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. Millet was selected as a juror for the art exhibition, and he covered that event for both the Boston Advertiser and the American Architect and Building News.
Now owned by the East Bridgewater Library, East Bridgewater, Massachusetts’s, the Bay of Naples hangs with a large number of other Millet paintings and other items. One of the other paintings the library owns is entitled Artist Studio Venice. Of interest in this painting is that it shows Bay of Naples in the process of being painted.
